Our Launch

Trinity was established in 1968 by a pioneering group of Christ followers who desired to form a non-denominational, Bible believing, missions minded, charismatic church where the gifts of the Holy Spirit could be expressed and a true family atmosphere enjoyed.

What We Believe

  • We believe the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, our infallible guide for determining what we believe and how we behave [2 Tim. 3:15-17; 1 Pet. 1:23-25; Acts 17:11].  We think the Bible is reliable for several reasons.  The Bible has strong archaeological support.  The manuscript tradition demonstrates that it has not been corrupted over time.  Fulfilled prophecies in the Bible suggest its divine authorship.  Jesus taught that the Old Testament was the authoritative Word of God.  The countless changed lives of those who put their trust in the God of the Bible also point to its divine authorship.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; perfect in love and justice, slow to anger, quick to forgive.  [Is. 43:10; Is. 44:6; Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19; Lk. 1:35; 2 Cor. 13:14; Acts 10:38; 1 Jn. 4:8; Ps. 89:14; 103:8; 1 Jn. 1:9]
  • We believe there are good reasons to believe in God.  God is the best explanation for why anything exists at all rather than nothing.  God is the best explanation for the beginning of the universe.  God is the best explanation for the apparent fine tuning of the universe for intelligent life.  God is the best explanation for objective morality.  God is the best explanation for the facts surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  God can and has been personally known.
  • We believe in Jesus, God who became man (Jn. 1:1-2, 14; 8:58-59; 10:30; 14:9; Rev. 22:13): his virgin birth (Matt. 1:23), his sinless life (Heb. 4:15), his miracles (Jn. 2:11; Lk. 1:1-4), his atoning death on the cross (Rom. 3:23-26; 1 Cor. 15:3; Col 1:14), his bodily resurrection (Matt. 28:6; Rom. 1:4; 1 Cor. 15:4), his ascension to the right hand of the Father (Lk. 24:50-51; Acts 1:9-11; Eph. 1:20; Col. 3:1; Heb. 4:14; 8:1), and his future return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Titus 2:13; 1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thes. 4:13-5:11; Heb. 9:28).
  • We believe that all people become children of God and are saved from their sins by putting their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Water baptism is the next step for those who choose to follow Jesus.  [Jn. 1:12; 14:6; Acts 4:12; Rev. 3:20; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:8-10; Rom. 10:9-10; Acts 2:38; 22:16; Matt. 28:19]
  • We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus and to make Him known. The Holy Spirit gives new life, indwells, guides, instructs (Jn. 16:9-13), develops character (Gal. 5:22-23), and empowers believers with supernatural gifts (Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 12:4-11; Mk. 1:8; Lk. 24:49; Jn. 1:33; Acts 1:4-5; 2:1-4; 10:44-47; 11:16; 19:1-6) .
  • We believe Jesus is still healing people through His church today:  physically, emotionally, and spiritually. [Matt. 10:8; Jam. 5:14-15]
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; the saved to everlasting life (Dan. 12:2; Job 19:26-27; Ps. 16:10-11; 23:6; 49:15; 73:23-26; 103:4-5; Jn. 3:16; 5:24-29; 14:2-3; 1 Cor. 15:20-28); the unsaved to everlasting punishment (Matt. 25:41-46; 3:10-12; Ps. 37:20; 68:2; 73:27; 104:35; Dan. 12:2; Jn. 3:16; 5:24-29; Matt. 10:28; Lk. 16:22-24; 2 Pet. 2:4-9; Rev. 20:11-15; 21:8).
  • We believe that God designed sex and marriage to be mutually enjoyed by a husband and his wife exclusively and all other sexual encounters require repentance.  Marital intimacy has no basis in entitlement or obligation, rather it must be consensual, intimate, and pleasurable for both. [SS. 1:2-4; 4:9-5:1; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; 18-20; Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:5-6; Eph. 5:31; Matt. 5:27-30; Rom. 1:26-27]
  • We believe God created both men and women in His image to serve as His representatives on the earth.  Both are gifted and called to serve as ministers in His church including roles that involve leadership and teaching.  [Gen. 1:27-28; Jud. 4:4-5; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:17-18; 18:26; 1 Cor. 14:26; Rom. 15:14; Gal. 3:28; 2 Tim. 2:12; 1 Pet. 2:5-9; Rev. 5:9-10; 20:6; 22:5]
  • We believe marriages thrive when husbands and wives live the "one anothers":  Love one another (Jn. 13:34), Serve one another (Gal. 5:13), Be kind to one another (Eph. 4:32), Forgive one another (Eph. 4:2), Submit to one another (Eph. 5:21), Admonish one another (Rom. 15:14), Encourage one another (1 Thes. 5:11), Be united with one another (1 Cor. 1:10), Honor one another (Rom. 12:10), Pray for one another (Jm. 5:16), Confess your faults to one another (Jm. 5:16), Be patient with one another (Eph. 4:2).
  • We believe that singleness, as well as marriage, is an honorable calling. [1 Cor. 7:7-8; 25-26; 32-35; 38-40]
  • We believe that all people, including those who hold different beliefs than us, should be treated with kindness and respect.  [Eph. 4:32; 1 Pet. 3:15-16; Jm. 1:19]

Our Leadership Team

At Trinity we believe strongly that our ministers are all the members of the congregation, men and women, young and old.  We are passionate about equipping and releasing the next generation of Christian leaders, pastors, worship leaders, church planters, and missionaries.

  • Scott Smith - Lead Pastor

Pastor Scott has been in pastoral ministry since 1987 and began serving at Trinity in 1995.  He has served as a youth pastor, a children's pastor, and became the Lead Pastor in 2019.  Pastor Scott received his Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from Pacific Christian College in Fullerton, California.

Scott grew up going to church, but at sixteen he noticed a group of his peers were totally sold out for Jesus.  God convicted him that there was more to life than trying to be good and going to church, so he completely surrendered his life to Jesus, was baptized in the Holy Spirit, and has been serving Jesus ever since.  Scott married his wife, Andrea, in 1992 and is blessed with three children, Noah, Eden, and Samuel. He loves sports, hiking, reading, going to movies, playing games like Scrabble and Backgammon, and exploring new fine dining restaurants. He is also an avid Suns, Cardinals and Diamondbacks fan.

  • Kevin Hartke - Associate Pastor

Kevin Hartke has been a pastor at Trinity since 1985. He was the Senior Pastor from 1992-2018. In 2019, Pastor Kevin became the Mayor of Chandler and an Associate Pastor at Trinity.  He has a BS in biochemistry from the University of Missouri and a MA in Theology from Fuller Seminary.

Kevin has been married to Lynne for over 35 years. They have four awesome children, Nathan, Aleah, Katelyn and Zachary; one incredible daughter in-law Rachel, one phenomenal son in-law Todd Butler, and three of the smartest, and amazing grandchildren ever:  Micah, Madelyn, and Benjamin! Before moving to Arizona, Kevin and Lynne were missionaries working with Cree and Ojibwe native Americans for five years in Minnesota and Canada.

Kevin grew up in a Catholic home, but he radically surrendered his life to Jesus at the age of 21 while attending a Christian campus ministry at the University of Missouri.  Kevin loves to bring encouragement and freedom found in Christ to individuals, families and a community. He has a call to leadership and influencing government. In this capacity he served as a city councilman for the City of Chandler and Director of "For Our City, Chandler", a faith initiative uniting faith communities, non-profits, government and the business community across the city to collaborate, volunteer and serve together. Kevin also served on regional boards and commissions addressing transportation, economic development, and human services.

When he finds free time, he likes to hike, bike, work out, talk with people, be active in the community, and champion his wife's, children's and grandchildren's endeavors.

  • Jose Doñan - Lead Pastor of ICT

Jose Donan was born in the country of El Salvador in 1960.  At the age of 17 he left his country in search of economic prosperity and advanced education.  In 1979, Jose arrived in Chandler and met the love of his life, Belen Garcia Donan.  They got married in 1980.  Jose and Belen have a son, David Donan, and two precious grandchildren Belencita and Jose David Donan.

Jose grew up Catholic and became a follower of Jesus at the age of 23 after responding to an altar call at a Christian church in Chandler, AZ.  In 1990, Jose and Belen Donan were established as pastors of the Hispanic ministry at Trinity Christian Fellowship (ICT). Jose has grown this ministry into its own congregation.  Pastor Jose has fulfilled his dream for advanced education having earned a Master’s of Divinity degree from Phoenix Seminary and currently working on his PhD.

In 2013, Howard graduated from Arizona Christian University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music with a minor in Biblical Studies. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Jasmine.
